Saudi media: Iran wants to open the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for US compensation.
Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya television, citing sources, reported that Iran has submitted two proposals to Pakistani mediators, offering to open the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for US compensation, and demanding that sanctions and funds freezes be discussed before any agreement is signed.
Xinhua News Agency, citing Al Arabiya TV on Saturday (May 23), reported that, according to sources, Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Munir had conveyed a message from the United States to Iran. The message included assurances that "if Iran agrees to an agreement, the contentious issues can be resolved later." It also stated that if Iran rejects the agreement, it will face "negative consequences."
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bagaei said on Saturday that after weeks of dialogue, Iran and the United States are currently in the final stages of finalizing a memorandum of understanding.
Bagaé said, "The views of both Iran and the United States are moving in a more consistent direction," and progress could be made within three or four days.
During his visit to New Delhi, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Iran could accept an agreement aimed at ending the Middle East war as early as Saturday.
